The relationship we have with our parents is as equally as important to us as the relationship we have with our students. Securing the right tutor for your child takes time. We provide an elite tutoring service that is hassle free and a seamless process for you as the parent.
Parents
Our Relationship with Parents
The process includes an initial free in person consultation for you and your child with the director of tutoring, careful matching of a student’s personality and learning style with a tutor, confirmation of a weekly tutoring day and time, completion of an online enrolment, invoice and payment function and continuous feedback after every tutoring session. We focus on your child’s learning enhancement so you have more time to focus on supporting your child through their studies.
As a child safe organisation, Avivo directors handpick and train all tutors to provide a professional service at our dedicated tutoring centre. Parents view our centre as a safe and trusted environment that complements the investment in their child’s education. We are a term based tutoring service and your child’s dedicated tutor works one on one with your child in a weekly session.
Tutoring Mindset and When to Start
Avivo strives to enhance school-based learning and support the overall wellbeing of a student. There are many different reasons for seeking a tutor. These include perceived gaps in literacy or numeracy skills, low confidence in ability, periods of absence from school, disengagement with the classroom teacher, strengthening technical skills, enhancing, consolidating or extending already developed subject skills or maximizing a subject study score.
Mastering academic study requires the same commitment as mastering an instrument. Tutoring is like a weekly music lesson; it provides support and guidance as to how to play. It is only through daily practice that mastering the instrument is achieved.
The best time to start tutoring is when your child is ready to make a commitment to improving their academic success.
Why Choose Avivo
Avivo’s elite tutoring team constantly keeps up to date with new curriculum, current issues confronting young people, monitoring student and parent expectations, implementing improvements and innovating the way we deliver our service. We work closely with education and health professionals to refine our service to deliver what matters.
In 2022, we are uniquely positioned to offer tutoring to students by dual delivery with the option of on premises or online via our dedicated virtual classroom. We reserve the right to move all tutoring online should there be a public health concern or if directed back into lockdown by the government. Our unique hybrid service approach means that we can ensure there is no interruption to your child’s learning.
Avivo believes in working smarter not harder and focuses on rewarding personal achievement rather than simply measuring academic success.
Education Insurance
Today’s financial investment in a child’s education is significant.
In 2021, a child’s lifetime education cost is estimated at $80,000 for a public education and up to $500,000 for a private education.
Our parents say tutoring at Avivo is like taking out an insurance policy to protect that investment.
Perfectionism vs Achievement
It’s ok to achieve and excel in a subject even the traditional subjects. At Avivo, we work with high achieving students to find the right balance of effort versus reward to achieve their ultimate goal.
Increasingly, we are encountering students who see a grade below A+ as a failure and others who are used to achieving at an elite level give up if they cannot obtain a high grade. Many of our tutors have experienced the “Perfectionism Syndrome” and it isn’t good for the mind, body or soul. It can create a lot of anxiety.
Our experienced tutors work with students to find strategies to manage this situation. Tutors will talk to Avivo Directors and we will as a “duty of care” contact you as the parent. Our partner psychologist group is experienced in dealing with this growing syndrome in teenagers and children as young as 7.
The spike in this syndrome is being fuelled by social media with perfect photos, captions and posts of people’s lives and happenings which is making young people think everyone else’s life is perfect.
If you feel your child is experiencing this syndrome then we are happy to have an initial confidential conversation and refer you to an experienced professional. In our experience the early this syndrome is addressed the better outcome your child will have in putting their achievements into perspective and accepting that constant perfection is not reality.
Mindfulness
Encouraging the practice of “Mindfulness” is an important resilience skill for young people as it is an effective way to reduce stress, increase self-awareness, enhance emotional intelligence, and, effectively handle painful thoughts and feelings. Where necessary we help students practice mindfulness to relieve anxiety and stress associated with study and day to day life.
It's OK to Ask for Help
If you are feeling the stress of your child not coping with school or life in general, we work with different psychology groups that can assist you and your child.
Talk confidentially with our director as we have a process in place to help you.
All Children Have a Right to Feel Safe and be Safe at All Times
We are a Child Friendly & Child Safe Organisation
As an organisation, we have always had a duty of care to all our students. Avivo welcomes the introduction of mandatory child safe standards in Victoria. Tutors at Avivo are handpicked by our directors and provided with training and guidance in the expectations of working as a professional tutor dealing with minors.
We have fostered a child safe culture by creating a child safe tutoring space, empowering students to speak up, providing ongoing child safe training for tutors, having clearly stated policies and procedures for child safety, actively managing all sessions on premises as well as live monitoring and a full recording of all online sessions, a reporting mechanism for any behaviour of a child or tutor that raises concern and organisational vigilance in taking action.
